Introduction to Trail Walking

This introductory workshop is designed to give useful information and practical ideas to assist participants in planning safe and enjoyable walks on marked walking routes.  It is especially suitable for those new to trail walking. 

Please Note: This workshop is NOT suitable for those already involved in Hill Walking/Mountaineering Clubs

 

Target Group:        Community Groups/Individuals
Date & Venue:       Saturday 27th November in Castlecomer Discovery Park
Time:                    11am – 3pm

Cost:                      €5 (Tea and Coffee will be provided)

The workshop includes: 

  • Benefits of trail walking
  • Understanding different types of trails
  • Planning your walking session
  • Getting your gear right
  • Practical walking sessions lead by an experienced instructor.

This workshop is being run by Trail Kilkenny, Kilkenny Recreation and Sports Partnership and the Health Promotion Department HSE South.

MADE show in the Dock

 MADE in kilkenny are traveling their ’sense of place’ show to the Docks Arts Center in Carrick-on-Shannon, Co.Leirtirm. The Exhibition opens this Saturday at 2.30pm and runs for the month of November.

Launch of Nore Valley Walk – Kilkenny to Bennettsbridge Section

Bridge photo  @ launch of KK-BB (NVW) - low resA great day was had at the launch of the Kilkenny to Bennetsbridge section of the Nore Valley Walk. Minister Mary White did the honours and 44 people left Bennetsbridge in warm sunshine, we stopped half way for a picnic of Lavistown Sausages and Highbank Apple Juice. Walkers continued to Kilkenny and we’re brought back to Bennettsbridge by ring-a-link.

Savour Kilkenny
The Savour Kilkenny festival is running over the bank holiday weekend in Kilkenny City (Saturday and Sunday) and Thomastown (Monday) Alot of members of the Food Trail are participating and the Craft Trail are also involved. Full details are on the Savour website:

Lost car Key between Sion Road and the Lacken Walk
A walker has reported losing her car keys on the Nore Valley Walk between the Sion Road and the Lacken Walk. If anyone finds this please contact me and I’ll put you in touch with the owner.

Tree felling on Tory Hill
Coillte are felling trees on Tory Hill starting Monday the 25th of October. Please obey the signage and stay off the sections of walk that are being felled.

 

Savour Kilkenny Craft

  MADE in kilkenny are getting into the Savour mood by having an exhibition of tabletop craft in the National Craft Gallery. The show will run for Saturday and Sunday. You will be able to get ideas on how to mix a collection of local craft to create an unique feel …

Official Opening of Kilkenny to Bennettsbridge section of NVW – Saturday 16th of October @ 14.00

Heritage week group shotI would like to invite you to the official opening of the Nore Valley Walk – Kilkenny to Bennetsbridge section on Saturday the 16th of October at 14.00, meeting at the  Mixed National  School in Bennetsbridge. The plan for the opening is:

-          Official opening ceremony by Minister of State for Equality, Human Rights and Integration, Mary White

-       Guided walk from Bennetsbridge to Kilkenny along River Nore

 Note:
A bus will be provided to bring walkers from Kilkenny back to Bennetsbridge.
A smartphone guide to the route is available to download on the Trail Kilkenny website www.trailkilkenny.ie

National Trails Day, launch of Kilkenny to Bennetsbridge section of Nore Valley Walk and Food Trail deal

National Trails Day Walk
National Trails Day is this coming Sunday (3rd of October) and Trail Kilkenny are organising a walk on the Nore Valley Walk from Thomastown to Inistioge. The walk will leave the Thomastown GAA pitch at 11am and a bus will bring walkers back from Inistioge to the GAA pitch for a small charge.

Olivia at stile (cropped)Olivia O’Leary will be mentioning Trail Kilkenny, the Nore Valley Walk and our new iphone app on her weekly radio column this evening. The column is usually on around 17.30 on Mary Wilsons Drivetime program on Radio 1.
